Rtn. Nkemdili Au Nnonyelu is the choice of District Governor 2024-25, for Rotary International District 9142 and has been an active member of Rotary Club of Awka, Anambra State, since 2nd November, 1989. He served in various committees and held different Board positions, until he served as President Rotary Club of Awka in the 1995/96 Rotary year. His presidency at the Club witnessed several Club projects, notably the Comfort Station at then Timber Shed Awka, now Odera Shopping Complex Club membership grew astronomically and contributions to the Foundation also soared. He has been a constant recipient of Club recognitions and laurels from almost all Club Presidents since his entry into Rotary. Maintaining a hundred percent attendance for decades. In 2011/12, he served once again as Club President, which he refers to as his Second Missionary Journey at District level, he has served in various committees as Member and Chair, bagging a host of recognitions from different District Governors-twice, Best District Chair, 2nd Best, twice, as well as two-term Assistant Governor. 

 

At the inception of the new District 9142, he was the Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, and Chairman of the First District Conference. He was also Membership Chair for three years during which he assisted successive District Governors in raising the membership profile from 1,360 members to 1971. His passion for membership development is legendary at club, district and national levels. He takes sharing Rotary with others as an apostolate. Rtn. Au. Nnonyelu is a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, and has attended all District Conferences and some International Conventions since he joined Rotary. Indeed, he is a regular face at District meetings and trainings, sometimes as a resource person Nkemdili Au. Nnonyelu is a Professor of Industrial Relations in the Department of Sociology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He had his university education at the famous University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained BSc, MSc Industrial Sociology and Ph.D Industrial Relations degrees in the same department. He is a widely published and travelled scholar who at various times has been two time Head, Department of Sociology: Dean Students Affairs; Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences; Director, Continuing Education Programme; Director UNIZIK Business School and is currently Director, Emeka Anyaoku Institute for International Studies and Diplomacy.

He is also a two-term former member of the Governing Council Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Rtn. Au. Nnonyelu has served as Chairman Anambra State Housing Development Corporation; Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Ecology a Environment: Transition Chairman, Awka South Local Government Area, Honourable Commissioner for Education in 2003 and was a member of the Transition Committee of the incumbent Governor of Anambra State Prof. C.C Soludo.

He is a Fellow, and the current National President of the umbrella body of Sociologists and Anthropologists in Nigeria – the Nigerian Anthropological Sociological Practitioners Association (NASA), as well as a member of the British Sociological Association (BSA), American Sociological Association (ASA) and Association of Black Sociologist America (ABS).

Rtn. Nnonyelu is a Papal Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester, and holds the Chieftaincy title of Okaa Awka. He is happily married with children.
